Dear Valued Friend,
As I write this letter, the scent of newly cut hay fills our office like a benediction. At Littlemore, we live close to the rhythms of the earth and the seasons, a tremendous privilege. Deo gratias.
The rush and rattle of contemporary life often seem to leave little time for prayer--and awareness of the Church’s liturgical life and seasons. Could this poverty explain the renewed interest lay Catholics have in praying the Liturgy of the Hours?
The Catholic Truth Society takes some pleasure in being able to offer several books to fill this need. Three of our most popular are...
The Monastic Diurnal. We acquired these beautifully crafted, leather-bound books from the St. Michael’s Abbey in Farnmouth, England. It is a link to the ancient and rich Benedictine tradition of prayer, the foundation of Western monasticism.
The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Patterned after the Liturgy of the Hours, this little book contains a wealth of Marian themes and is a wonderful source for devotion to the Mother of God.
The Liturgy of the Hours. This four-volume set, our most complete, would be an indispensable addition to the spiritual library of anyone who wants to grow in the love of God through prayer. It would also be the perfect gift for a priest.
We can’t recommend these strongly enough. To pray the Divine Office is to pray the prayer of the Church with the Church. Like the Mass, it unites us with Catholics around the world–reflecting Our Lord’s prayer at the Last Supper that we be one.
Please visit our website at catholictruthsociety.com for descriptions of these and other titles. We call them “books for the journey.” And we always invite you to join us in this most exciting journey.
